2016 Centre Stage

Kaikoura Netball Centre in 2016 has 19 teams participating in competitions ranging from Senior to Year 5/6.

Our Year 1-4 skills programme has been completed with close to 40 children regularly attending the 10 sessions.

These have been very popular sessions with skills learnt in a fun, and enjoyable way. Three Senior High School students have been invaluable in supporting our coaches in this area.

Four teams are currently contesting the six aside format in the Year 5/6 Grade. This format has been embraced by the Coaches and players alike enthusiastically.

Teams in our other Grades are nearing the end of their round robin competition games and will move into Grade playoffs in the next few weeks.

Representative teams have participated in Top of the South and a catch up fixture with huruui in June and still have Country Field Day and a second fixture with Hurunui and Malvern to look forward to.

We are indebted to all our Rep team coaches and Managers who give up so much of their time to assist these teams.

A big emphasis this season has been the upskilling of our umpires and this is progressing with regular rules discussion sessions. Our younger players have responded to this with enthusiasm and are now gaining practical experience at the appropriate level. Several will sit the Centre Theory exam and one candidate is registered for the Zone Theory exam.

Each Saturday this season the centre has been fortunate to have the sponsorship fo local Kaikoura Businesses who have provided vouchers for each team for their Player of the Day. We also have vouchers for all our umpires each day and this support is greatly appreciated.
